Pastor's Bio

Pastor Kenneth Leon Fowlkes

Kenneth Leon Fowlkes, the fifth of nine children, was born in Jacksonville,    Florida. He attended grade school in Norfolk, VA. After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Military.

Pursuing an active military career in the United States Army, he attended Thomas Nelson College in Trenton, New Jersey. His military assignments include: Saudi Arabia (Gulf War), Egypt, England, Alaska, Texas, and Fort Meade, Maryland, where he retired from faithful service.

While stationed in Alaska on a nuclear missile base 4,000 ft. upon a mountain ridge, the Lord spoke to him about turning his life around. He accepted the Lord in June 1979 and became a member of Friendly COGIC, under the leadership of Bishop C. D. Williams. He answered the call to preach the gospel in July 1981, and later relocated to Ft. Meade, MD and became a member of Refreshing Spring COGIC.

As a licensed minister, he was appointed as President of the Outreach Ministry, which he founded. While serving as president, he established 9 ministries: Nursing Home Ministry, Jail Ministry, Bible & Tracks Ministry, Christian Film Ministry, Bus Ministry, Drug & Alcohol Ministry, Sunday School Door-to-Door recruiting, 700 Club Phone Ministry (Area coordinator), and outreach teams that supported smaller churches by conducting revivals and workshops.

Minister Fowlkes was ordained as an Elder and worked faithfully for many years under his pastor, Bishop Archie D. Headen. During military training in Virginia Beach, VA while moving a sleeping cot from the left to the right, God called him to pastoral ministry. Elder Fowlkes received the blessing of his pastor to begin a Bible study. From the Bible study, the church was founded in April 1988 and named Kingdom Builders COGIC; based upon 1 Corinthians 3:10: “…Unto me as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon, but let every man take heed how he buildeth there upon.”

The church has moved from three locations to in its history to its present location, 1490 Matthewstown Road, Hanover, MD 21076. Wherein three acres were purchased and a new edifice was constructed in 2004, God gave Pastor Fowlkes the vision to be the General Contractor of the 11, 000 sq. ft. building, 350 seating capacity in the sanctuary, 200 seating capacity in the fellowship hall and over 100 parking spaces.
Three churches have been birthed from the ministry of Kingdom Builders – New Life Christian Center, True Believers Ministries & True Tabernacle Christian Center.

In 1998, Pastor Fowlkes was appointed as District Evangelist by Supt. Lorenzo DuPree, A.D. Headen District, and he was appointed as Assistant Supt. By Supt. James E. Jordan in 2003.
As an evangelist, he was a primary altar worker during jurisdictional meetings and conferences, winning many souls to Christ. Because of his love for youth ministry, Pastor Fowlkes supported the A.D. Headen District Youth Dept. and Jurisdictional Youth Dept. and opened the doors of the church for youth rallies, workshops, and annual youth days.

He is the faithful husband of Evangelist Loretta J. Fowlkes, the father of six children (Tony, LaTroy, Navette, Tracy, Demi, and Kevin) and the grandfather of eight grandchildren.

One of his favorite scriptures is II Corinthians 4:3, which states: "but if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost."

He endeavors daily to be the consecrated, and dedicated pastor that the Lord can mold and use for His glory and God's Kingdom!
